Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral


The purpose of the Focus Awards Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral (RQF) is to provide the leaner with the knowledge and understanding of applying the principles of anatomy and physiology, medical conditions, professional practice and nutrition. Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to plan and instruct suitable programmes’ for exercise referral patients. The Focus Awards Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral (RQF) is aimed at those leaners that are currently working or are wishing to work within the Fitness and Active Leisure sector.

Qualification Purpose:

The purpose of the Focus Awards Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral (RQF) is to provide the leaner with the knowledge and understanding of applying the principles of anatomy and physiology, medical conditions, professional practice and nutrition. Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to plan and instruct suitable programmes’ for exercise referral patients. The Focus Awards Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral (RQF) is aimed at those leaners that are currently working or are wishing to work within the Fitness and Active Leisure sector.

Age ranges

Entry is at the discretion of the centre. However, learners should be aged 16 to undertake this

Learner Entry Requirements

Learners must have achieved a pre-requisite qualification either in Fitness Instructing (gym based, exercise to music or aqua) at Level 2 or Personal Training at Level 3.

Assessment Methods

Each learner must create a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates achievement of all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria associated with each unit. The main pieces of evidence for the portfolio could include some or all of the following:

  • Assessor observation
  • Witness testimony
  • Learner product
  • Worksheets
  • Assignments/projects/reports
  • Record of oral and written questioning
  • Learner and peer reports
  • Recognition of prior learning (RPL)
