Good news story - Alexandra Whitcher progresses onto Masters course
Alex is about to complete the STLS Level 3 Apprenticeship and will be starting a Masters in January 2026 in Speech and Language Therapy at Bournemouth Health and Sciences University.
Alex already has a Psychology Degree and Fenton CP School were very keen for her to use her extensive knowledge whilst on work-based learning in the school. The Degree was theory based, but the apprenticeship has been far more practical with real life experiences and work-based learning. Her Degree helped Alex when working with children and understanding several elements of the course, such as child development, promoting positive behaviour and communication and professional relationships.
The experience Alex gained on the STLS Level 3 was certainly a deciding factor when the University selected her for the Masters. The fact that she had already spent a year working 1:1 with ALN children both in Fenton’s Nurture Group and in their mainstream settings helped Alex’s successful application for the course.
Initially, Alex was unsure if she wanted her whole career to be in schools and working with children, but, whilst on the STLS course, she firmly made her mind up and subsequently applied for the Masters.
She is indebted to Fenton CP School for the opportunity, their welcome and the supportive environment that has helped her to flourish.
